On Thursday June 7th, 2012 McKonly and Asbury, LLP, along with its co-host MANTEC and partner organization the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC held its spring 2012 Manufacturing Summit. This years summit theme was "Growing Top Line Revenue and Bottom Line Income in 2012 and Beyond"
The summit included speakers from MANTEC, McKonly and Asbury, LLP, PlanetTogether, Facilities Planners and Architects and McConkey and Company Insurance and Benefits. The summit also included a lively roundtable discussion on growth and innovation led by Bruce Nilson of Future Direction.
The summit began with a presentation from Fred Botterbusch of MANTEC on "Growth and Innovation and What Companies are Doing to Grow". Fred discussed what he has learned through other organizations and companies that he works closely with as well as information he has received from the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) in regards to Reigniting American Innovation and Growth.
This presentation was then followed by a lively roundtable discussion with all members in attendance by Bruce Nilson of Future Direction. Bruce asked three key questions of the participants:
1. What are some ways your company has been able to innovate to be more competitive?
2. How might innovation help to better differentiate your company from your competitors?
3. What would you like to see your company do but have not been able to figure out yet?
These questions led to very lively discussion between the participants and Bruce and produced a number of thought provoking responses.
Following this roundtable discussions, David Blain of McKonly and Asbury, LLP along with Scott McMartin of PlanetTogether presented on Throughput Velocity - The Measure of Market Leadership. David and Scott discussed the traditional ways of looking at financial results and presented some different ways of looking at business results through determination of velocity and ability to produce at capacity.
Garry Brinton of Financial Planners and Architects then presented on How to Save Money (and Aggravation) On Your Next Renovation and Construction Projects. Garry discussed how to determine right size and need, the right team to complete the project, approaches and checks and balances to ensure that the project is completed timely and within budget.
Finally, the morning ended with a presentation from John Dormuth of McConkey Insurance and Benefits on the Total Cost of Risk. John discussed the importance of determining what your risk is and what that cost of risk might be as businesses continues to grow and innovate.
