Harrisburg Regional Chamber To Sponsor LEAN Event January 25th

The Harrisburg Regional Chamber will be sponsoring a program called "Return on Investment (LEAN, 5S, LEAN 101a)" on Wednesday January 25th, 2012 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. The event will take place at the Appalachian Brewing Company located at 50 North Cameron Street in Harrisburg. Through this session participants will:

   

• Learn why LEAN techniques can be benefical to their business
• Be introduced to the concept of LEAN and 5S
• Learn about additional training opportunities available

The session will be led by representatives of MANTEC. MANTEC is one of seven industrial resource centers (IRC's) located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with the goal of supporting and growing manufacturing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

MANTEC To Host Dr. Ned Hill At Its Annual Conference On October 5th

On October 5th, MANTEC will host Dr. Ned Hill of the Cleveland State University at its Annual Conference to discuss "A Stronger Economy Through Pennsylvania Manufacturing". Pennsylvania is the sixth largest manufacturing state in the Country. Dr. Hill will focus on how Pennsylvania can become number 1.

Dr. Edward (Ned) Hill is the Dean of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.  He is one of the nation’s foremost thought leaders on manufacturing and chairs the Manufacturing Extension Partnership’s National Advisory Board.  In 2011 he led the study “Pennsylvania’s True Commonwealth:  The State of Manufacturing- Challenges and Opportunities” proving the importance of this economic sector.

 Dr. Ned Hill, the manufacturing industry expert, will address:

• The current state of manufacturing in Pennsylvania
• Successful manufacturing practices and how many are able to leverage the current
  economic environment to their benefit
• The comprehensive national manufacturing policy that will affect Pennsylvania businesses

Through his anecdotal stories and in depth knowledge of the industry, Dr. Ned Hill will educate
and entertain throughout the morning.

As a manufacturer, tax matters can have a significant impact on your business. McKonly and Asbury Sponsors MANTEC’s “Driving Growth after the Great Recession” Event

On Thursday, September 16, 2010, MANTEC held its annual meeting titled "Driving Growth after the Great Recession." This event was held with over 150 attendees gathered to recognize LEAN graduates, MANTEC Manufacturing Award nominees, and to learn about the state of the economy and the impact on manufacturing. McKonly & Asbury sponsored the event as a Small Business Sponsor. The event was held at the Holiday Inn New Cumberland and hosted manufacturing executives and leaders from throughout Central Pennsylvania.

The keynote speaker for this event was Dr. Ned Hill. Dr. Hill is the Dean of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University. He is considered one of the nation's foremost thought leaders on manufacturing and chairs the Manufacturing Extension Partnership's National Advisory Board.

Dr. Hill's message centered on:

• Discovering the common characteristics of successful firms and the seven lessons for small and mid-sized businesses.
• Understanding best practices and building competitive advantages.
• Discussing the affects of legislative policies and how they are affecting the Pennsylvania Manufacturing economy.
• Articulating the importance of innovation in business growth.

The day also saw the graduation of David Blain, Principal with McKonly & Asbury, as a LEAN certified professional by MANTEC. This LEAN certification, as described by MANTEC's President, John Lloyd, is the equivalent of 3 college credit hours and applies the principals of LEAN in a hands-on environment with participating manufacturers with MANTEC.

During the event, MANTEC also recognized Manufacturing Award winners. The awards are based on the Next Generation Manufacturing Strategies - a collaborative study across the United States concluded that leaders who adopt and integrate these strategies into their business plans will have a significant advantage over their competition.
